Back to School Team-Building for a Cause with IDT Global Sales

Some team-building events leave a lasting impression, not just on participants, but on the communities they touch.

On February 13, 2025, Grupo Events had the honor of producing a high-energy give-back experience at Planet Hollywood Cancun for the global sales team at IDT.

With a school-inspired theme and the mission of supporting local students to receive funding for education through The KKIS Project, this collaborative event perfectly blended team-building, creativity, and impact.

The Setup: School Spirit with Purpose

This was the first time Grupo Events worked with IDT Global Sales – and what a kickoff it was! They brought their enthusiasm, drive, and willingness to lean fully into the day’s challenges.

The event was titled ‘Back to School for a Cause – Discover What’s Possible’, and it did exactly that. With 200 participants split into 25 teams, each challenge was built around a school subject: math, science, language, art, and even physical education.

With an overarching message: Education Changes Lives.

We began our day, our Grupo facilitator introduced the sessions by sharing an eye-opening statistic: Less than half of students in Quintana Roo finish high school, many dropping out by Grade 9. This sobering reality set the tone and established a meaningful connection to The KKIS Project, the local nonprofit that would receive the team’s donations later in the day.

The Challenges Begin

Each challenge station was designed to stretch minds, foster laughter, and spark conversation between the team members. All while underlining the importance of having access to quality education.

1. Favorite Teacher Memory

To kick things off, teams shared personal reflections about educators who had shaped their lives. From heartfelt stories to humorous moments, the exercise reminded everyone how powerful a single teacher’s influence can be.

2. Education Awareness Campaign

Blending art and advocacy, each team created a poster campaign – in Spanish – to promote the value of education in underserved communities. These posters weren’t just for fun; they were later gifted to students alongside the donated school supplies, becoming inspirational pieces with real staying power.

3. Math Relay

One of the day’s most high-energy moments, this challenge brought out the competitive side of even the most laid-back team members. Participants tackled clever, classroom-themed riddles like budgeting puzzles and logic problems.

Whether solving how to spend $10 on 10 school supplies or figuring out which pages were torn from a math book, teams raced to be first with the correct answers and the well-deserved bragging rights.

4. The Paper Airplane Challenge

Engineering met creativity as teams designed and tested paper airplanes based on principles of aerodynamics. Some teams focused on hang time, others on distance, but all discovered how quickly science, collaboration, and a little experimentation could turn into high-flying fun.

5. The Pledge to Support Education

At this reflective station, teams brainstormed real-world ways to support education beyond the day’s event. Through mentoring, donations, volunteering, or workplace giving. Each team stood and shared its pledge, reinforcing a group commitment to ongoing impact.

6. Brain Boost Circuit

We know from experience: even the most motivated teams need an energy boost mid-event. Our facilitators led a fun, fast-paced “classroom fitness break” with lunges, superhero poses, and laughter all around. A quick moment to shake it off and re-focus before the grand finale.

Supplies for Success

As the group transitioned outdoors to Gusto Terrace, the atmosphere shifted from playful to powerful. Long tables were stocked with school supplies: pens, notebooks, pencil crayons, rulers, and more.

Each team assembled donation bags, making sure every item was included and adding handwritten notes of encouragement for the local students who would receive them.

This portion of the event created a tangible, hands-on connection between IDT and the kids they were supporting. It also made it clear that this wasn’t just about team bonding, it was about creating an impactful legacy.

Picture Perfect Impact

With the supply bags packed and lined up, we brought everyone together for a final group photo. Smiling faces, team signs, and rows of colorful backpacks created a powerful visual: 200 people, one mission, and a ripple effect that would reach classrooms across Quintana Roo.

This was more than a give-back event. It was a moment of perspective, a celebration of potential, and a reminder that education is a gift we all have the power to share.
